Tarragona (Catalonia) – Spain

Tarragona, on the Catalan coast. Most of the walk follows the Rambla Nova, the tree-lined pedestrian street where people stroll and take shelter in the shade, and ends at the Roman amphitheatre, still in good shape and big enough to impress.

The buildings along the Rambla are rich in decoration, on the facades and on the roofs: look up and you find hidden details, and a few palaces with a very minimal, clean look (some remind me of faces with a moustache). The “Monumento a los Castellers”, a complex construction of many figures, is the symbol of the city. There are contrasts of new and old, like the Medical Center next to the Chamber of Commerce, benches everywhere for deciding which way to go, and the choice between the tourist sights and the narrow streets of the old town.

Some monuments look tired and need a rest, one child seems to be doing something unkind to a poor animal, and the series closes with a few less artistic urban landscapes. I did not see the beaches, but from a distance the sea and the coast look beautiful.
