Tarragona (Catalonia) – Spain

by Olegs Belousovs • 2007/08/06 • Gallery in World Places – Spain

I’ve been at Tarragona while I was passing on my way from Barcelona to Benidorm, driving with my best friend for summer vacation. Definitely worth making a walk to admire its streets, monuments and architectural remains of the Romans.

The main pedestrian street of Tarragona called Rambla Nova

The tree-lined main pedestrian street of Tarragona called Rambla Nova, is animated and full of people who take shelter in the shade.

Carmelite church of Tarragona

The buildings along the Rambla Nova are very rich in architectural decorations.

Decorations of a roof of a house in Tarragona

There are so many details on the facades of the buildings but also on the roofs, looking up and having eye you can see hidden beauties.

Minimal architecture of the windows in Tarragona

A building that looks like a face with a mustache

Besides the very rich architecture of Tarragona, you can also find in some palaces with very minimal and clean aspect. Some forms remind me of the faces with a mustache :{

Monumento a los Castellers on the Rambla Nova in Tarragona

Human-centered architecture :)

I think that this monument “Monumento a los Castellers” is the symbol of the city and one of the most popular tourist attractions. The construction is very complex with many figures and details.

Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Navigation of Tarragona

Some contrast between new and old, Medical Center VS Chamber of Commerce.

White benches lined at the Rambla Nova in Tarragona

If you are lost and do not know the way you can always sit on one of the many benches and decide how to proceed.

One of the streets of Tarragona

It’s up to you to decide if you want to stay to see the tourists sights or penetrate the narrow streets of Tarragona to explore the city and its wonders.

Remains of Roman Amphitheatre of Tarragona

You should definitely walk along the Rambla Nova to get to see this Roman amphitheater, which is really in good structural condition and big enough to impress you.

The maritime coast of Tarragona

I have not seen the beaches of Tarragona, but by far the sea and the coast seem beautiful.

Bronze statue of retired old man sitting on a stone bench at Rambla Nova

Even monuments sometimes get tired and need to rest a moment :)

Fountain of a kid choking a duck at Tarragona

Another interesting monument… what this sadistic child is doing to this poor animal? The old man from the previous picture is too tired to say something and to help?

Some houses and other buildings in Tarragona

Cranes and ships at the Port of Tarragona

And finally some less artistic urban landscapes of Tarragona.
